I want to volunteer
Volunteering gives you a chance to change lives; including your own. It also gives you an opportunity to develop and practice your social skills, making a difference and creating positive social change. Doing good makes you feel good. It is even greater to work in an organisation that creates a chance to be included in volunteering programs and assist you to get involved with local community enabling us to address various social needs.
Recently RS Components donated 6 large bean bags valued at over R 6,000 that were destined for recycling, that created a more comfortable way of listening and learning for the kids. RS volunteers visited Lapeng Child and Family Resource Services to hand over the bean bag chairs and joined in during story time. Sizwe, 6 years old, with a huge smile said “I am so happy. I never have to sit on the cold floor again and my favourite rugby team is the Cheetahs. That will be my favourite chair”. What an incredible project opportunity to be involved in…
This showed me and reminded me that the little things can make a big difference. Even a big corporate like RS can be able to do a little that can go a long way.
Another project that was really rewarding is when we joined South Africa and the rest of the world to celebrate Mandela day which took place on the late former president Nelson Mandela’s birthday. For 67min and more we painted the outside walls of cottages at Botshabelo and donated groceries for the kids. Botshabelo provide a long, caring, homely environment for abused and abandoned children under the age of 2 years, and they also run an Early Childhood Development program/school. Again it was a fun filled day that all RS staff members took part in.
We have also entered teams into the 94.7 to raise money for the Endangered Wildlife Trust’s (EWT) Wild Dogs programme since 2011. If you are keen to ride or support EWT and the Wild Dogs Programme please contact Debbie Thiart, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Debbie will register you with the EWT charity bond.
There are numerous volunteer opportunities we can all get involved in; it always makes it a little easier if your commitment matches the organisation’s need, your personality and interest.
Another great project we are currently working on is donating one of our best selling educational tools in the form raspberry pi with the purpose to improve the learning abilities on programming skills in South Africa. To learn more about Raspberry pi, please visit our website at za.rs-online.com
